Teachers from the Social Law Institute Went to Germany and Austria to Participate in Academic Exchange Activities

From July 15th to 19th, 2019, Professor Zhao Hongmei, the Leader of Social Law Discipline of CUPL, Associate Professor Lou Yu, Director of the Social Law Institute, Deputy Director Professor Wang Xianyong, Deputy Director Associate Professor Yang Fei, and Associate Professor Jin Yingjie visited the Law School and Family Institute of the University of Vienna, Austria, the Legal Affairs Department of the German Trade Union Confederation, and the Law School of the University of Göttingen, Germany, and participated in a series of academic exchange activities.

On July 15, teachers from the Social Law Institute participated in a seminar on “New Issues in Social Law and Social Policy in the New Era” organized by the Law School and Family Institute of the University of Vienna, Austria. Representatives from Austria included Professor Wolfgang Mazal, Director of the Labor Law and Social Security of University of Vienna, the Law Institute and Family Institute; Dr. Gerhard Kuras, Chief Judge of the Supreme Court of Labor and Social Security Tribunal; and Dr. Martin Gleitzmann, Officer of the Department of Social Policy and Health of the Austrian Economic Commission.

On July 17, the teacher representatives of the Social Law Institute and Ye Jingyi, the vice president and secretary-general of the China Social Law Research Committee and the deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Peking University, visited the Legal Affairs Department of the German Trade Union Confederation in Frankfurt, Germany, and exchanged views on “Application of Labor Law and Social Security Law for Employees in the Sharing Economy” with representatives from the theoretical and the pragmatic community of the German Trade Unions. German representatives participating in the meeting included Reinhard Vorbau, CEO of the Legal Affairs Department of the German Trade Union Confederation, the board member of the German Hardware Trade Union, Professor Frank Balmes of Technical University of Cologne, and Dr. Werner Bünnagel, Strategic Project Manager of the Legal Affairs Department of the German Trade Union Confederation.

From July 18th to 19th, the teacher representatives of the Social Law Institute and Ye Jingyi, Vice-President and General Secretary of China Social Law Research Institute and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Peking University, Tsinghua University Law School Professor Zheng Shangyuan, Vice-President of China Social Law Research Institute, and Associate Professor Wu Wenfang from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Law School visited University of Göttingen Law School, Germany, and participated in the China-German Forum on “The Challenges and Opportunities of the Sharing Economy to Labor Law and Social Security Law” co-sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Social Law Institute of China University of Political Science and Law, and University of Göttingen Labor Law Institute. For the first time held in Beijing, the forum has been held for three consecutive sessions, and has attracted widespread attention in the social law and theoretical communities of China and Germany.

German experts participating in this seminar include Prof. Wolfgang Däubler, Law School of University of Bremen, Prof. Rüdiger Krause and Prof. Olaf Deinert, Law School of  University of Göttingen, Prof. Caroline Ruiner, Department of Sociology, University of Trier, Professor Daniel Ulber, University of Halle-Wittenberg Law School, Researcher Daniel Hlava and Researcher Thomas Klebe of the Institute of Frankfurt Hugo Zinzheimer Labor Law, and Thomas Klein, Researcher of the European Institute of Labor Law and Labor Relations. On behalf of the sponsor, Dr. Alexander Kallweit, the Chief Representative of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in China gave a speech.

Seminar scene

Teachers from the Social Law Institute travelled to Germany and Austria to participate in academic activities, which strengthened the cooperation between the Institute of Social Law and important institutions of higher learning and social organizations in German-speaking countries and expanded the international influence of our school’s social law discipline. We have taken another solid step towards developing a world-class social law discipline with Chinese characteristics.
