The Third “Belt and Road” Law School Student Forum was Successfully Held

From December 5th to 7th 2019, the Third “Belt and Road” Law School Student Forum was held at the CUPL Changping Campus. The forum was themed “International Vision and Cultural Exchange for Law Students under the Belt and Road Strategy”, hosted by CUPL, and undertaken by Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School and the Youth Research Center of China University of Political Science and Law. Nearly 50 teachers and students from 8 universities including Ljubljana University, Aristotle University, Raman University (UTAR), and Zhejiang University attended the forum. Li Xiuyun, CUPL Vice-President, Professor Zhang Liying, a specialist of Maritime Law, Institute of International Education, doctoral advisor, Yuan Yang of Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School Student Office, Professor Pote Valeriu and Professor Olariu Mihai of Romanian University of Rome, Professor Daria Fitsai of Law School of the Russian Ministry of Justice, East Siberia, Professor Au Yong Hui Nee of University of Raman, Malaysia, Professor Iulia Kuriliuk, Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, and Professor VaSiliki Gounari, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece attended the opening ceremony. Professor Wang Hongsong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School and Director of the CUPL Youth Research Center, presided over the opening ceremony.



There were three themes on display at the forum: the curriculum system, the practical exchange, and the career development of law students in countries along the "Belt and Road". Professor Iulia Kuriliuk of Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Chen Danyao, a CUPL student, and Professor Vasiliki Gounari of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki gave keynote speeches. They all emphasized the importance of the rule of law in the "Belt and Road" initiative, the similarity of the legal systems of the countries along the routes, and the challenges they face, and affirmed the important role of law students in the future development of society. They discussed the development opportunities and challenges of law students along the "Belt and Road" in study, practice and career.



In the activities on December 6th, teachers and students from various countries visited the Beijing Tianchi Juntai Law Firm and Temple of Heaven and learned about China’s judicial practice and Chinese traditional culture. During the visit, the teachers and students had friendly exchanges along the way. The participants appreciated the working environment and content of China’s judicial practice and deepened their understanding of Chinese traditional culture.



On December 7, the participants visited the Palace Museum together. Through the exploration of historical culture, teachers and students from abroad and domestic have learned about China’s long history and profound culture, which promoted mutual exchanges and understanding between each other, and forged a strong bond of friendship. Under the green walls of carved beams and painted rafters and the red walls and green tiles covered by the late winter snow, teachers and students from various countries on the ancient Silk Road experienced a long history and a splendid civilization, which deepened their understanding and confidence in the contemporary "Belt and Road".



The Third “Belt and Road”Law School Student Forum, which lasted three days, ended successfully. This forum has produced abundant results, promoted understanding and communication between teachers and students from the countries along the "Belt and Road", and contributed to the exchange and integration of law students in the countries along the "Belt and Road". The success of the forum also means a new beginning. In the future, the university alliance will continue to actively promote the university law student alliance along the "Belt and Road", strengthen the university alliance to build a sharing and cooperation platform for law students, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation among law students from universities and colleges along the "Belt and Road".
